Volkswagen and Toshiba Feel The Electricity Together?
As electric cars grow their ranges and become faster off the line, the real race is battery technology. Toshiba/Mitsubishi has been working with Volkswagen to build a new battery type using their "Super-Charge Ion Battery" or SCiB technology.
"Toshiba has said it is working with Volkswagen AG (VLKAY) to develop electric car battery systems, although no final supply deal has been reached.
"Toshiba said the companies have been working together for a year on battery systems containing its "super-charge ion battery," or SCiB, for use in electric cars, citing the battery's long life and recharging speed.
""For auto makers, the common stance is to secure at least two battery suppliers," said Mizuho Investors Securities analyst Ryoichi Saito. "That would help lower procurement costs, and also it's good to have a back-up option when anything goes wrong with one supplier.""
